Has anyone else noticed that "Boy Meets Girl" doesn't seem to be the plot-line of many modern film and TV dramas?
We have "The Killing" and all its imitators ("Broadchurch, Shetland, Spiral) on TV.
We have "This is 40", and "I Give it a Year" on film.
What happened to old-fashioned romance?
Romance is still out there...it just has to compete with a whole raft of other subjects now.

DeleteI've just listened to "Front Row", which was an interview with Anne Tyler, my very favourite novelist. I'm so happy! She doesn't write old-fashioned romances, though there is a bit of romance, or at least love, sometimes.
ReplyDeleteOh, bother, I meant to listen to that but forgot - will catch it on the I-Player. I like Anne Tyler a lot, she is so wise! My favourite is "An Amateur Marriage."
Deletemy son once gave me a huge boxset of Carry Grant movies....some very old he is hardly in.....so I've been enjoying She Done Him Wrong, The Awful Truth and, with the amazing Marlene Dietrich, Blonde Venus!!!
ReplyDeletePure indulgence!
